Sebastian Police officers injured during mother and son arrest

Sebastian, Florida (treasurecoast.com)- 2 Sebastian Police officers were injured during mother and son arrest.

Here is the info:
Weds evening, a Sebastian Police Officer was patrolling the City and discovered what appeared to be a disturbance between a male (Cory Wonder) and his mother (Mona Lisa Wonder) in the 100 block of Main Street. As the officer made contact with these two individuals, it was learned they had previously been involved in a disturbance.

As the initial officer was speaking with Mr. Wonder, Mrs. Wonder attempted to walk away from the area and was refusing to cooperate. An assisting officer arrived on scene and tried to speak to Mrs. Wonder, but she continued to refuse to cooperate and attempted to walk away.

As the officer was trying to detain her, Mr. Wonder began violently attacking the arresting officer, subsequently taking both officers to the ground. During the altercation, Mr. Wonder viciously struck both officers about the face and head. The officers were able to defeat Mr. Wonder’s attack and he was eventually taken into custody.

At the same time, a third officer arrived on the scene and began to apprehend Mrs. Wonder, who was still entangled in the skirmish. Mr. Wonder became enraged once again and unexpectedly kicked that officer in the chest in another attempt to defeat the detention of his mother. Both individuals were arrested and delivered to the Indian River County Jail.

Mona Lisa Wonder was charged with resisting arrest and given a $500 bond.
Cory Wonder was charged with three (3) counts of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and issued a $30,000 bond.

Two of our officers were taken to the hospital, treated for their injuries, and released.

“Fortunately, this unwarranted violence on our officers resulted in the apprehension of these two individuals who have no regard for the law. This incident was handled professionally by these heroes who were attacked for simply doing their job of protecting this City and the citizens we serve”. ~ Chief Daniel Acosta
