Vero woman on US road trip goes missing

VERO BEACH, Fl. – Joseph Petito of Vero Beach says he needs help finding his daughter, 22-year-old Gabby Petito.

Petito says Gabby and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie drove from Florida to New York State. They left Blue Point, New York on July 2.

The family says the couple’s van has been recovered but Gabby is missing.

Nicole Schmidt, mother,  said she last received a text message from her daughter August 30. Petito was reported missing Saturday when family members were unable to contact her.

Petito was believed to have last been in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming before her family stopped hearing from her.

A Facebook page called “Find Gabby” has been set up to provide information on the search and help locate the woman.

Her Instagram page had several recent photos of her at Arches, Bryce Canyon and Canyonlands national parks.

The couple had set up a You-tube account.

The Daily Mail reported Laundrie returned home to Florida, has hired an attorney, and isn’t talking publicly about what happened. The vehicle the couple traveled in has been recovered in North Port, Florida, police there said on Facebook Monday.

Anyone with information about Petito’s whereabouts over the last two weeks has been asked to contact Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS, or by text message by texting SCPD and a message to CRIMES (274637).

North Port PD says anyone who might have information about the case is asked to 941-429-7382.

The FBI Tampa Field Office is also assisting the investigation. You can also call 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips to tips.fbi.gov.

Petito is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and has blonde hair and blue eyes. She has a triangle tattoo with flowers on her left arm and a “Let it be” tattoo on her right arm.
