Treasure Coast Awake the State held first day of legislative session

Senate President Joe Negron started the 2018 legislative session yesterday by promising to crack down on sexual harassment in the Florida Capitol.

Meanwhile House Speaker Richard Corcoran said the Senate and the governor want to raise taxes using what’s known as the “required local effort” for schools. But he said it’s not going to happen.

And during his State of the State speech, Governor Rick Scott said they’ve accomplished a lot during his seven years as governor… but there is more to be done.

Lawmakers have filed nearly 300 bills. Only ten percent of them will reach Governor Scott’s Desk. Key issues include education funding, tax cuts, the environment, healthcare and preparing for future mega storms like Hurricane Irma. (While ignoring the words Climate Change)

Meanwhile here on the Treasure Coast the 3rd Awake the State was held on the Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart

Here is Mary HIggins explaining what Awake the State is:

Thousands of people honked and gave the group thumbs up. Only a few gave them the finger. Progress!

This was a non partisan event so literally anyone with any issue were welcome.

Awake The State is a grassroots movement of everyday Floridians working to build a Florida that works for every Floridian, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

The Florida legislative session is usually a wild and crazy rollercoaster ride so hold on tight!

I was very happy to be there to address the issues of our fellow TreasureCoasters. Apparently, these issues were not important enough for the TC Palm, CBS 12, WPTV or any other news source.

We were there to to build a Florida that works for every Floridian, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

Update comments:

Cindy:
It was nice meeting you yesterday!  Here’s my thoughts:  “Getting so many thumbs up and honks from the people passing by was encouraging!  Maybe District 18 is more awake than we thought!”
Roseann
We can only hope!
