Time to Prepare for Hurricane Season

Time to Prepare for Hurricane Season.

Hurricane season starts June 1st, but making preparations now can help you in the event a storm actually approaches.

Ensuring your yard is hurricane-ready can decrease the amount of dangerous debris that scatters during and after severe wind and weather storms while increasing the safety of your family, your home, and your neighbor’s homes.

Martin County Utilities and Solid Waste Department has several tips on things you can do now, to save you later. Remove any items, like weak trees and branches, that could become flying debris in a storm. Cutting back or thinning foliage allows wind to blow freely through the branches, decreasing the chances of uprooting trees or plants.  Make sure that any yard debris you place curbside is no larger than six inches in diameter, or six feet in length.

Here’s a little sing-a-long to get you in the mood!
