Texas couple suspected of committing hundreds of auto burglaries across the nation get nabbed in Martin County

Martin County, Fl- A Texas couple suspected of committing upward of 200 auto burglaries in Texas, California, and Florida had the last page of their travel journal stamped in Martin County after they worked unsuccessfully to put our beaches on their list of best burglary destinations.

After burglarizing a vehicle at Bryn Mawr Beach on Sunday, through investigative techniques, Detective Jason Pickering was successful at retrieving information on a suspicious vehicle with Texas plates.

MCSOs Crimes Surveillance Team set up around our local beaches anticipating the car would return over the next few days. Like clock-work, it did. As Detective Pickering suspected, it was suspicious for a reason.

Watch as 26-year old Nickolas James Rodgers gets out of his vehicle and smashes out the window of a parked vehicle using a brick he brought with him. Once he steals the bags inside, he moves to another, but is interrupted by MCSO’s Tactical Tourism Team, aka, criminal surveillance detectives.

Inside the vehicle was 30-year old Chelsea Mott, who admitted to detectives that the couple moved through the country on a stealing spree. Rodgers, a fugitive from justice, is wanted on an open warrant in Texas for stealing a gun and credit cards. He was taken to the Martin County Jail charged with burglary, grand theft, unlawful possession of credit cards and fraudulent use of credit cards. He has no bond and is expected to be extradited back to Texas.

Chelsea Mott, was charged with burglary and petit theft. She remains in the Martin County Jail.

From the Martin County Sheriff: “On behalf of that Tactical Tourism Team, welcome to Martin County. ”
