Start the New Year with Tech Training at the St. Lucie County Libraries

  1. LUCIE COUNTY – If you received new tech for the holidays, St. Lucie County Library System has free technology training sessions at five different branches throughout January. In addition to the scheduled classes, all six branch libraries offer one-on-one technology help by appointment.

Scheduled classes for January include (advanced registration is not required):

  • Friday, Jan. 7 from 9 to 10 a.m. – iPhone Basics at the Lakewood Park Branch Library, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce. Join us as we dive into the basic functions of an iPhone. We’ll explore basic settings, texting and how to make and receive calls.
  • Saturday, Jan. 8 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. – Blackboard Basics at the Morningside Branch Library, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie. Taking an online course at Indian River State College (IRSC) this semester? Learn the features of Blackboard, including checking your schedule, sending messages, using the Discussion Board and completing homework. Bring your IRSC login and textbook code.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 11 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. – Financial Wellness / Credit Reports at the Kilmer Branch Library, 101 Melody Lane, Fort Pierce. We’ll explore resources from the Federal Trade Commission on how and why you should check your free credit report.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 3 to 5 p.m. – Apple Basics at the Pruitt Campus Library, 500 NW California Blvd., Port St. Lucie. You will learn about the different features and functions of your Apple device.
  • Friday, Jan. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Library Online Resources: Overdrive and Cloud Library at the Lewis Branch Library, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd., Port St. Lucie. This program gives you a hands-on look at some free e-book software available through the library.
  • Friday, Jan. 14 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. – Nutrition and Dieting Apps at the Morningside Branch Library, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie. Come enjoy a lively discussion on nutrition apps and how to make them work for you.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. – iPhone Basics Plus at the Morningside Branch Library, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie. We will discuss setting up a medical ID, using speak selection, configuring your emergency SOS and many more options that come with your iPhone.
  • Friday, Jan. 21 from 9 to 10 a.m. – Android Basics at the Lakewood Park Branch Library, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce. Join us as we dive into the basic functions of an Android. We’ll explore basic settings, texting, and how to make and receive calls.
  • Saturday, Jan. 22 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. – Resume Building at the Morningside Branch Library, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie. Perfect for new job seekers or those looking to polish up an old resume. Don’t forget to bring your work history.

  • Tuesday, Jan. 25 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. – Financial Wellness / Identity Theft at Kilmer Branch Library, 101 Melody Lane, Fort Pierce. We’ll explore resources from the Federal Trade Commission on tips to avoid identity theft.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. – Editing Audio with Audacity at the Pruitt Campus Library, 500 NW California Blvd., Port St. Lucie. Create professional sounding audio using Audacity. We’ll learn how to remove mistakes and add music while editing an actual audio file.
  • Friday, Jan. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Tech Talk: Never Forget a Password at the Lewis Branch Library, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd., Port St. Lucie. Learn new techniques to keep your passwords safe and secure.
  • Saturday, Jan. 29 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. – Freegal at the Morningside Branch Library, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie. We’ll explore the free music service, Freegal. Learn how to download or stream music. Freegal offers access to about 15 million songs, including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists, and more than 40,000 music videos. Please bring your device.

Virtual Reality Session – Don’t miss a chance to immerse yourself in a 3D world. The virtual reality sessions are open to everyone, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Saturday, Jan. 8 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Lewis Branch Library, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd., Port St. Lucie.
  • Thursday, Jan. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch Library,  7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce.
  • Saturday, Jan. 15 from Jan. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hurston Branch Library, 3008 Avenue D., Fort Pierce.

For residents who would like more individual assistance, all six branch libraries offer one-on-one technology help for adults by appointment.  Adults can contact their local branch library to schedule a session. Please remember to bring all your passwords, St. Lucie County Library card and make sure all your devices are fully charged.

A reminder that all St. Lucie County Libraries have expanded Wi-Fi available from the parking lot 24 hours a day; seven days a week.
