St. Lucie County moving forward with Coastal Storm Risk Management Project

St. Lucie County, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -St. Lucie County’s Erosion District has received final approval to move forward with the St. Lucie County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project (a federal beach nourishment project for South Hutchinson Island from Normandy Beach to the Martin County line).
Work to replace sand along this 3.4 mile stretch of Hutchinson Island is slated to begin around March 19. A public meeting to discuss construction of this 3.4 mile beach renourishment project is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Nettles Island West Recreation Hall, 9801 S. Ocean Drive in Jensen Beach. In-person seating is limited, so all association managers are encouraged to organize in-person representatives.
Masks and social distancing are encouraged. Reservations should be sent by emailing revordjo@stlucieco.org. A virtual option of the meeting will be available for those unable to attend in person. While the pumping of sand on the beach isn’t expected to begin until March 19, residents should be aware that land surveying and vibratory monitoring (small seismic recording units temporarily placed in/or around condominiums) will begin soon.
