St. Lucie County Encourages Special Needs Patients to Register for Shelter, Attend Open House June 15 at the Fenn Center
St. Lucie County’s Public Safety Department, in partnership with the Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County and other agencies, is scheduled to hold an open house on Thursday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Havert L. Fenn Center.
The purpose of the event is to remind those residents with special needs that they should pre-register. One needs to see what is expected of them if they plan to utilize the Special Needs Shelter during an emergency event. The Fenn Center is located at 2000 Virginia Ave., Fort Pierce. The facility is equipped with the necessary infrastructure to handle patients with specific needs. This included accessible showers, kitchen facilities, additional electrical outlets and medical personal.
“Emergency management staff needs residents with special needs to pre-register. This is so the shelter is staffed with the proper equipment and required personnel to meet the residents’ needs,” urged St. Lucie County Director of Public Safety Ron Parrish. “During Hurricane Matthew last October, we successfully admitted and cared for more than 100 residents with special needs who rode out the storm at the Fenn Center.”
