Two face criminal charges for killing alligator near Lake O
Palm Beach County, Fla- Two men are facing criminal charges for the killing of an alligator along Lake Okeechobee earlier this year. 42-year-old Jack Madison Bunting is charged with the unlawful killing of an alligator.
Investigators said he and 38-year-old Donald Arthur Daggett killed an alligator that they had taken from a secured construction area along the lake in March. The men retrieved a second alligator that they had killed earlier, cleaned them and threw the carcasses off a bridge. A witness told investigators the men took some of the meat home to cook.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bunting on Tuesday. He’s free on bond. Daggett has been out on bond since his arrest in October.
Alligators can only be killed if deemed a nuisance by the FWC or by applying for a permit during state-approved hunts. Those hunts include specific time frames and locations.
