Put that cell phone down in school and work zones!

Put that phone down. Another round of new Florida laws went into effect yesterday, and one of the biggest changes relates to drivers using cell phones. Drivers now have to put down all wireless devices when driving in a work or school zone. If caught, it’s a moving violation with three points on your license. The new rule is part of lawmakers efforts to strengthen the state’s texting and driving policy. The main meat of the law, which started in July, changed texting behind the wheel from a secondary to a primary offense. That means officers can now pull you over if they see you do it. Both aspects of the new law are still in the education phase of enforcement. Police will likely only write you a warning for an offense until the first of the year.
