Possible Pick axe burglars arrested

Three young women, including a 15-year-old girl, were arrested Friday following smash-and-grab burglaries at two businesses and a car crash in Vero Beach.

A police officer on patrol heard an alarm going off down the street. The officer pulled his car into a parking lot and saw the shattered glass in front of the businesses and a suspicious car sitting there with its lights off. As soon as the officer moved in, the car drove away. But the driver lost control of the wheel and crashed into a ditch off Indian River Boulevard. The officer said the car flew about 15 feet in the air before crashing on its roof. The suspects are identified as Victoria Dejesus and Deztanie Dejesus, both 19.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrested the pair last August on grand theft charges. They were also under investigation for a series of pickax break-ins up and down the Treasure Coast. A pickax was found inside the suspects car. The third suspect is a 15-year-old girl. All 3 are facing two counts of burglary, and charges of grand theft and possession of burglary tools.
