One arrested in drive by shooting case from April in Indian River

Indian River, Fl- On April 20th, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4400 block of 25th Avenue in Gifford regarding shots fired. Christard Hicks (19) of Fort Pierce was found with a fatal gunshot wound. A black Chrysler was observed fleeing the scene and was eventually recovered by detectives. Since the shooting, detectives have worked tirelessly to track down witnesses and process evidence, which ultimately led to today’s arrest.

Jamal Riggins (19) of Vero Beach was arrested. The warrants for first degree murder, five counts of attempted first degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and shooting or throwing a deadly missile. Riggins remains in the Indian River County Jail without bond.

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “Today’s arrest is a fine example of how community cooperation can help us find justice in these horrific acts of violence. Jamal Riggins was arrested as a result of witness statements corroborating physical evidence obtained by our detectives. It is a safer day in Indian River County now that Riggins is behind bars.”
