Martin County, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- The Martin County Sheriff’s saved a  man from jumping off a turnpike overpass.

This is what they said:

The distraught individual who threatened to jump off of the turnpike overpass is safe and now in protective custody.
Members of the MCSO Behavioral Health Unit along with our Hostage Negotiation Team spent hours working with the man who said he was distraught over the death of his mother.
MCSO was forced to shut down the turnpike near Palm City while teams tried to talk the man into safely coming down. A short time ago, the individual requested to speak again to Chief Deputy John Budensiek, who ultimately convinced the subject to safely surrender into protective custody. The man will be taken to a mental health facility where he will be properly cared for.
The turnpike has reopened. Thank you for your patience and prayers as we worked to bring this matter to a safe conclusion.
