Vero Beach, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- A Fort Pierce man has been charged in Monday’s seven-car wreck that happened in Vero Beach.

Adam Thomas Leisenring, 37, is charged with driving with a suspended license as a habitual offender, a felony, and resisting arrest without violence after fleeing from the hospital following the crash.

Leisenring told police that the Nissan belonged to his father. After running his I.D. police learned that Leisenring had 12 active driver license suspensions dating back to 2017, and two license revocations.

Leisenring was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital for evaluation, but left the hospital before he was released and before police could arrest him for driving without a license..

Police later arrested Leisenring at his mother’s house and took him back to the hospital, where he was treated for a broken wrist, and then arrested.

He was released from the Indian River County Jail at 8:27 p.m. that day after posting $7,500 bond. An arraignment on the charges is schedule for Feb. 25.

Vero Police looking for man that caused six-vehicle crash

Vero Beach, Fl (treasurecoast.com) – Police are looking for man that caused six-vehicle crash.

Vero Police are looking for a man they say took off on foot from a hospital after causing a six-vehicle crash on U.S. 1.

The crash sent a woman to a hospital and led to lane closures for nearly two hours Monday on U.S. 1 in Vero Beach.

The man police are looking for faces arrest on charges for the crash, driving a stolen vehicle and driving with a revoked license, said Vero Beach police Master Police Officer Darrell Rivers.

A woman who was driving a 2010 Mercedes at the time of crash was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce.

Indian River County Fire Rescue Chief Tad Stone said she was in stable condition.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. after a 2020 Nissan Murano traveling south on U.S. 1 went through a red light and struck a northbound 2016 Chevy truck that was turning left onto Aviation Boulevard, Rivers said.

The Murano had been reported stolen by the man’s father.

He was taken by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital with minor facial injuries where he escaped, but Rivers said police do not consider the man a threat in the community.

After striking the Chevy, the Nissan went over a gray 2022 Honda Accord, “and catapulted on top of a Mercedes,” according to Rivers.

Police pictures show the rear of a heavily damaged white sport utility vehicle stopped on top of a grey sedan while its front end rested on another car; all of which were in the highway’s northbound lanes.

Five other people involved in the crash refused medical treatment, said Stone.

All lanes of the highway were reopened around 11:30 a.m.
