The point of land which sits at the junction of the Indian River and Jupiter Inlet for thousands of years had been a meeting place for ancient Indian tribes. In 1849  it was recommended as a suitable place for military defenses. sand dune. The Loxahatchee River Historical Society today operates the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum, which is open daily except Monday. The museum is located in Lighthouse Park, 500 Captain Armour’s Way.  Visitors can climb the lighthouse tower.

Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum offers climbing tours to the top of the landmark 1860 lighthouse and a waterfront history Museum in a restored WWII Navy building known as “Station J”. Indoor exhibits tell diverse stories of over 5,000 years of human habitation in and around the Jupiter Inlet and Loxahatchee River.

The Lighthouse has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973.
