IRCSheriff : Canine Deputy Sunny and his handler track first suspect
Indian River County, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- The Indian River Sheriff have announced that Canine Deputy Sunny and his handler tracked his first suspect.
This is what they said:
On April 9th, 2022 at around 0130 hours, one of our uniformed patrol deputies observed a reckless vehicle in the south county precinct. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed while also failing to stop for posted stop signs and steady red traffic signals. When our deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle fled at speeds in excess of 80 mph on numerous county roadways before eventually being partially immobilized with Stop Sticks.

Once he realized his vehicle was no longer fully functional, the driver bailed and fled on foot. The driver failed to place his vehicle in park which then began traveling, unoccupied, towards other vehicular traffic. A deputy was able to jump in the vehicle and place it in park to prevent any further hazard.
Canine Deputy Sunny and his handler arrived on scene and began tracking the suspect. A short distance away, the suspect was located inside the enclosed fence line of a local business. The suspect attempted to conceal himself within the bed of a pick-up truck and refused all commands to come out. Canine Sunny was utilized to apprehend the suspect and he was taken into custody.
Daniel Keith Walker,
The driver was identified as Daniel Keith Walker, who now has a total of 15 bookings just in the Indian River County Jail alone. He is designated a habitual traffic offender and at the time of the above incident, was out on bond for felony driving while license suspended and flee and elude. He now faces additional charges of flee and elude, possession of cocaine, and felony driving while license suspended. His previously posted bond was revoked at first appearance and Walker is being held without bond.
This is Canine Sunny’s first apprehension since he and his handler finished school and went on patrol together middle of last year.
