Originally this area of IRC was part of the Spanish colony of East Florida. In 1822 it became part of St. Johns County. It subsequently became part of Mosquito County,    Its portion of Mosquito County became part of newly created St. Lucia County in 1844.  St. Lucia County was renamed Brevard County in 1855. In 1905, St. Lucie County was formed from the southern portion of Brevard County.  1925 Indian River County was formed from the northern portion of St. Lucie County. 

 

Round Island is the furthest south beach in IRC, then South Beach, Humiston Park, Sexton Plaza, Jaycee Park

Sebastian Inlet State Park

9700 S Hwy A1A

 Check surf cam here. This park also is a favorite for anglers nationwide who catch snook, redfish, bluefish and Spanish mackerel from its jetties. Other favorite activities include swimming scuba diving snorkeling shelling and sunbathing. Amenities include picnic pavilions, walking trails, fishing pier, campground, boat ramp, ADA beach access, restrooms and showers. Beach wheelchairs are available upon request. This Park has an entrance fee.

If you’re a pirate looking for booty, you’re in luck! Indian River County is part of the Treasure Coast and has a few beaches known to have treasure lying around on the ocean floor.
