Broward County- Today Governor Ron Desantis appointed Alligator Ron Bergeron to the board of SFWMD. The Governor reiterated that we need a fresh start at the Board.

U.S. Congressman Brian Mast (FL-18) today released the following statement after Governor Ron DeSantis nominated Ron Bergeron:

“Having lived his entire life in the Everglades, Ron Bergeron understands the complexities of restoration better than almost anybody.  He has a proven track record of not taking crap from anyone in his pursuit of doing what is best for the Everglades – a perspective that is sorely needed on a board that for far too long has operated without any transparency and prioritized special interests above the people of Florida.”

Ronald M. Bergeron, 75, is the Founder and CEO of Bergeron Family of Companies. Bergeron started his first business, Bergeron Land Development, in 1965. He is now one of the most successful and largest site development and roadway contractors in the State of Florida. In addition, “Alligator Ron,” as he is known throughout Florida, has devoted considerable time and resources to protecting Florida’s wildlife and conservation efforts of the Florida Everglades. He has served two five-year terms as a board member of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, including serving as the Florida Wildlife Conservation Point Commissioner over the entire Florida Everglades.

The appointment will be subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
