FWC: Boat hit red channel marker

Martin County, Fl- According to FWC, 8 people were on the boat when it struck a red channel marker.

The vessel crashed just after 8 p.m. Sunday in the Intracoastal Waterway near Sandsprit Park and the town of Sewall’s Point, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

The FWC says a 31-year-old man was driving a 26-foot center-console boat.

They were travelling in the direction of Manatee Pocket near Sandsprit Park and Sewall’s Point when the boat hit the red channel marker 238.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victims as 1-year-old Hudson Matakaetis and 28-year-old Paige Barrett.

The Sheriff’s office initially reported this:

“The Martin County Sheriff’s Office was called to a very serious boat accident involving a single vessel in the Intercoastal Waterway near Sewall’s Point/Sandsprit Park. The crash occurred just after 8pm.

Martin County Sheriff’s Marine Units, Air One, along with the SLC Sheriff’s Air Unit assisted to locate everyone on board. At this hour, all passengers have been accounted for. Two people were transported to the hospital with very serious injuries. FWC will be taking over the investigation and will be releasing additional information when it is available.”
