FPUA Drinking Water Safe

FPUA Drinking Water Safe

Fort Pierce, FL, – Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) understands that in light of recent events, customers may have heightened concerns about security at FPUA facilities and in particular, FPUA’s Water Treatment Plant.

FPUA’s Cyber Security Analyst, and entire team, are dedicated to helping protect all departments from cybersecurity attacks. FPUA performs continuous monitoring and response throughout multiple levels of our systems, and all staff must participate in regularly scheduled cybersecurity training and ongoing testing of their knowledge. FPUA works closely with federal, state, and local partners to share information on cybersecurity events and best practices.

FPUA’s Water Treatment Plant is staffed 24 hours per day and security gates limit access. Cameras monitor the site at all times. Chemicals used in the water treatment process are continuously monitored by on-site staff using process instrumentation and multiple manual samplings per day. Manual readings are compared with process instrumentation for verification. There are no adjustments of chemicals made remotely that affect the public water supply.

FPUA commends the attention and actions performed by the operator at the water treatment plant in the Tampa Bay city of Oldsmar. Swift action to reduce chemicals to a safe level protected residents from a potentially dangerous situation.

FPUA will continue to monitor the outcomes of this situation and apply any necessary adjustments to keep our systems secure.

About FPUA: Fort Pierce Utilities Authority is a municipal utility whose mission is “to provide our customers with economical, reliable, and friendly service in a continuous effort to enhance the quality of life in our community.”
