Don’t miss the chance to vote for neighborhood names in the “New Year, New Name” Campaign

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – Phase two of the “New Year, New Name” campaign is happening now, and Port St. Lucie residents are encouraged to cast their votes for official neighborhood names by January 31.

In December, residents had the opportunity to suggest names for 17 neighborhood communities in the City as part of the campaign, which aims to officially name these areas by mid-February 2018. Each neighborhood community’s most popular name suggestions were shortlisted, and residents can now vote for their favorites.

Residents suggested more than 250 names in the first phase of the campaign. This naming campaign is part of the City’s Neighborhood Improvement and Community Engagement (NICE) program.

“This is a really exciting time for the City of Port St. Lucie,” said Carmen Capezzuto, Neighborhood Services Department Director. “It’s great to see the City’s neighborhood plans in action especially with such a high level of continuous public involvement.”

Surveys where residents can vote on the shortlisted names are now available at www.cityofpsl.com/NICE. Residents have until January 31, 2018 to vote for their preferred name at the NICE webpage.

The City will host multiple public information meetings for residents to attend and ask questions pertaining to the campaign and the naming of their community.

Public information meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, January 17 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 121 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd.; and Thursday, January 18 and Monday, January 22 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Port St. Lucie Community Center, 2195 SE Airoso Blvd. The meeting on January 17 also will be broadcast live on the City’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/cityofpsl/ for residents who cannot attend in person.  The live Facebook broadcast will enable residents to ask questions and get real-time answers no matter where they are located.

The 17 names chosen by residents will be revealed at a citywide celebration that carries a Valentine’s Day theme – “fall in love with your new name.” Residents can “fall in love” with their community’s new name at the first annual NICE Day block party, Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of City Hall. Food, activities for children and opportunities to learn more about the City will be available for participants. Dignitaries are expected to announce each neighborhood’s official name at noon during this event.
