Congressman Brian Mast ok after train crash
On January 31, 2018, a train carrying republican lawmakers crashed into a truck. This happened on the tracks in Virginia while heading to a GOP retreat. Treasure Coast representative Brian Mast was on the train along with his children.

“I appreciate the many friends and colleagues who have reached out regarding the Amtrak incident today, but—minor bumps and bruises aside—my family and I are okay. Sadly, it can’t be said for everyone—and I am asking you to join me in praying for those affected and their families.”
Then this was posted on his official Facebook Page.
“Today I was traveling with my two boys on an Amtrak train in Virginia when our train collided with a truck at an at-grade road crossing. My family and I are okay, but the driver and passengers in the truck were not as lucky. They and their families need your prayers tonight.
Sadly, we’ve become all too familiar with this kind of accident in South Florida where Brightline trains have struck and killed multiple pedestrians since they began operating just a few short weeks ago. I’ve long opposed the expansion of Brightline onto the Treasure Coast, where the mix of at-grade crossings and high-speed trains creates massive safety issues. My experience today has only strengthened my resolve to prevent Brightline from creating this dangerous situation in our community.
Another issue that Brightline expansions brings with it is impeding our local maritime traffic at bridges were the trains cross the waterways. At my request, the Coast Guard is conducting a study into how badly the increased rail traffic would harm our boaters.
