The City of PSL kicks off New Year, New Name Campaign
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – Port St. Lucie residents have the opportunity to suggest names for 17 neighborhood communities in the City as part of the “New Year, New Name” campaign, which aims to officially name these areas by February 2018.
“The goals of this campaign are to speed up our previous neighborhood identity campaign and produce quicker results – giving these areas an identity of their own sooner than planned,” said Carmen Capezzuto, Neighborhood Services Department director.
The New Year, New Name campaign is part of the City’s Neighborhood Improvement and Community Engagement program. The NICE program aims to achieve the City’s strategic goals of promoting vibrant neighborhoods and a high-quality of life. It gives residents a chance to name their own neighborhoods and have a collective voice when communicating with the City about issues in their community.
So far, the NICE program helped established names for four neighborhoods: Canal Pointe, Woodland Trails and Cashmere Cove. The area temporarily known as Oak Hammock will be named by the end of the year.
Surveys where residents can suggest names for the remaining neighborhood communities are now available at www.cityofpsl.com/NICE. Residents have until December 31, 2017 to submit name suggestions for their neighborhood communities.
Then,each neighborhood community’s most popular name suggestions will then be shortlisted. New voting surveys will be available on the NICE webpage beginning Wednesday, January 10 to Wednesday, January 31, 2018. During this time frame, the City will host multiple public information meetings for residents to attend and ask questions pertaining to the campaign. The meetings will also be available live on Facebook for residents who can not attend. An announcement will be made on the City’s website and social media sites when public meeting dates are confirmed.
The 17 names chosen by the residents will be revealed at the first annual NICE Day, Saturday, February 17, 2018. The NICE Day will be a citywide celebration and include free food, activities for children and opportunities to learn more about the City.
Unnamed neighborhood communities include the following areas with these temporary names:
“Most neighborhoods in Port St. Lucie were developed without an identity,” Capezzuto said. “No one wants to live in a neighborhood called Section 31. Therefore, we need our residents to engage with us to have a meaningful role in the implementation of this campaign.
