City of Okeechobee

The City of Okeechobee is a rural but progressive community within a small town atmosphere.

It’s hard to beat early morning fishing on the famous Lake Okeechobee. Whether it’s landing a trophy fish or just the relaxing view of a variety of Florida’s wildlife in their natural habitat waking up to a cool sunrise breeze, you’ll find it here.

Okeechobee also offers the excitement of a number of nationally sanctioned professional bass fishing tournaments. It is known as the “Speckled Perch Capital of the World”. There is an annual event in honor of this title, The Speckled Perch Festival. This event is Okeechobee’s largest festival of the year.

There’s also the Okeechobee Cattlemen’s Rodeo and the Okeechobee County Fair going on every year at the Agri-Center.

Okeechobee has a vibrant business district as well with a number of exciting businesses and industrial success stories.

Okeechobee’s location makes it the Gateway to South Florida with convenient access to both coasts and all of Central Florida.

Okeechobee City Information: It is the county seat of Okeechobee County. The Lake Okeechobee area was the site of the worst effects of the 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane.  This was the  first recorded Category 5 hurricane in the North Atlantic. It is still one of the deadliest hurricanes ever to strike the US.

In 2016, Okeechobee became home to the  Music & Arts Festival. This multi-day, multi-genre music festival attracted approximately 30,000 people to the city in its first year.
