Boil-water advisory for all Fort Pierce Utilities Authority customers

Boil-water advisory for all Fort Pierce Utilities Authority customers

Fort Pierce, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -A boil-water advisory is in effect for all Fort Pierce Utilities Authority customers after a water-line break Tuesday night, the utility said.

Water was restored Wednesday morning, but all customers remain under a precautionary boil-water advisory until further notice, according to a news release. FPUA crews are continuing to test and flush the water to ensure clarity.

Customers are urged to boil drinking and cooking water before use. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient, according to the release.

A 24-inch pipe burst near FPUA’s water plant Tuesday night, and crews spent eight hours isolating the area to assess the damage, according to news release Wednesday morning.

FPUA said Tuesday night only 5,000 customers were affected, but said Wednesday all customers are now under the boil-water advisory.

Because the boil-water advisory is still in effect, FPUA encouraged customers to follow EPA guidelines for cleaning water:

  • Use bottled water if available
  • Boil water for one minute and let it cool before use. Store it in clean, covered containers
  • If you can’t boil water, disinfect it with household bleach. Add 1/8 teaspoon of household bleach per gallon. Stir and let it stand for 30 minutes before use

Residents can contact St. Lucie County Utilities, 772-462-1150, with any questions.
