Austin Harrouff attorneys file for insanity defense

Austin Harrouff attorneys file for insanity defense

The lawyers for Austin Harrouff have filed in court a “Notice of Intent to Rely on an insanity defense.”

Harrouff faces two counts of First-Degree Murder. This is for the killings of John Stevens and Michelle Mischon at their home near Tequesta in 2016.

The notice further states that Harrouff was suffering from a full-blown psychotic episode. The defense team argues that Harrouff had a “mental infirmity”.  They contend that this condition caused him not to “know what he was doing or its consequences.”  It further states if he did know what he was doing and its consequences “he did not know it was wrong.”

The defense will be calling Dr Philip Resnick, Director of Forensic Psychiatry at university Hospitals Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

You can read Dr Resnicks RV here.
