Arrested construction site burglar said he is like Robin Hood
Port St Lucie, Fla- On April 2, 2018, Port St. Lucie Police arrested 50 year old Thomas Paul Sauer (300 block SW Belmont Circle, Port St. Lucie) on 2 counts of burglary to an unoccupied dwelling, 2 counts of grand theft, petit theft, and an outstanding warrant for petit theft.
During the investigation into the construction site theft detectives obtained a video of a red vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle related to a burglary in the 600 block of SW Homeland Road. Detectives also obtained video in the 800 block of SW Dalton Avenue that shows the red SUV pull up to the home, the passenger gets out of the car, opens the garage door, then the SUV backs into the garage. The detective disseminated the photo of the red SUV to road patrol officers who patrols the area of the burglaries.
On April 1, 2018, an Port St. Lucie police officer came across a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle, identified as a 2005 Hyundai SUV, parked in the driveway in the 300 block of SW Belmont Circle.
On April 2, 2018, Detectives with the Port St. Lucie Police Department continued their investigation into the burglaries and went to the home where the suspect vehicle was parked. While at the home, detectives met with Sauer who lives in the 300 block of SW Belmont Circle. As detectives interviewed Sauer, he admitted to taking the refrigerator out of the house located at 632 SW Homeland Rd worth $1,800.00 and a washer and dryer from 840 SW Dalton Avenue worth $800.00. Sauer also mentioned that he was like Robin Hood.
Sauer was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.

Between the dates of January 29, 2018 thru March 5, 2018, Port St. Lucie Police received 7 incidents of construction site residential burglaries.
Port St. Lucie Police received an eighth construction site burglary on March 25, 2018, when police went to the 600 block of SW Homeland Road. In this case a witness saw two males loading a refrigerator from the construction site into a hatchback car. The suspect told the witness that they were installing the refrigerator, but it didn’t fit. The suspect was described as a white male in his 60’s with a black male accomplice.
Port St. Lucie currently has 888 new construction permits within the City limits. Police are asking the public’s help in cracking down on construction site burglaries. A few of examples of suspicious activity at a construct site are: construction material being removed from property, persons on construction site after business hours, and persons inside a house under construction after business hours.
