Arrest made in theft of guns from Bass Pro Shop

An arrest has been made regarding the theft of guns from the Bass Pro Shop.

Sheriff Ken Mascara and Port St. Lucie Police Chief John Bolduc announce the arrest of Caleb U. Brown. The charges are dealing in stolen property and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

St. Lucie Police responded to the Bass Pro Shop for reports of an active burglary alarm on January 2, at around 2:40 am. Officers found the sliding glass doors to the business smashed out. Video surveillance revealed that a single suspect walked from the south east parking lot of the neighboring Home Depot. He then approached the front of the store and used what looks like a baseball bat to smash the sliding glass doors. Once inside, the male suspect went to the gun section of the store and took two rifles and an unknown amount of ammunition.

Thanks to a tip from the public!

According to Sheriff Mascara, a tip from the public led undercover detectives to Brown who was attempting to sell the firearms. Working together, detectives from both agencies conducted an undercover purchase of the guns and confirmed they were the ones stolen. In a traffic stop on Tuesday, January 17, Brown was arrested without incident and charged with dealing in stolen property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana. Additional charges related to the burglary could be forthcoming by the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
