4 people killed on Christmas Day  fiery crash in Lake Placid

Lake Placid, Fl-  A  North Fort Myers teenager and a Port St Lucie  woman were among four killed on Christmas Day in a fiery two-car, head-on crash in Lake Placid, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after noon on State Road 70 and County Road 721 in Highland County.

The North Fort Myers victim, 16-year-old Destiny Franz, was a passenger in a 2006 Toyota driven by 56-year-old Judy Mounts of Port St. Lucie. Neither survived.

According to  FHP, a Buick driven by an unidentified man was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane. Then he overtook the other westbound traffic on State Road 70 west of County Road 721. This was as he was approaching a left curve.

The Toyota was traveling eastbound on State Road 70 east of County Road 721. It was approaching the same curve, according to FHP.

The front of the Buick collided with the front of the Toyota in the eastbound lane. The Buick flipped over into a ditch on the south side of the roadway and burst into flames, the report said.

None of the passengers in either car, including another male in the Buick, survived the crash, the report said.

State Road 70 reopened about 6:30 p.m.

According to her Facebook Page Judy lived in Port St. Lucie and went to Vero Beach High School. Destiny was her granddaughter.
