The Proposal

Although it is usually the boyfriend who asks his girlfriend to marry him, most modern couples have discussed the subject long before he gets down on one knee. The time, place and style of the proposal may be a surprise - your answer shouldn't really be! Traditionally, men propose on one knee, asking, "Will you marry me?". But, as they say, there are many ways to skin a cat… The 29 February in a Leap Year is traditionally the only day that a woman is allowed to propose to her man…but blow that! In these days of whole Jerry Springer Shows entitled 'MARRY ME RIGHT NOW!' anything goes! This is a moment that will be recounted over and over to friends, family and even your children. Make it memorable. Planning is crucial, so never leave anything to chance. Try to keep your plans to yourself. This is a special moment; she will want to be the first to know about it. The one person you might want to tell in advance is the father of the potential bride. It's traditional to 'ask for his daughter's hand in marriage' and doing so will probably win you lots of brownie points, but there is no reason why this shouldn't happen after you've asked your partner. Remember that your marriage proposal is a story you'll both tell for the rest of your lives, so make it a memorable one! One top tip is to do something special, such as proposing while abroad, get on one knee and propose at the top of a mountain, or in romantic, picturesque surroundings. Throwing cash at the proposal is great, but being thoughtful does have the potential to make more of an impact. Remembering her favorite meal, wine, holiday location, view, music etc will mean a great deal to her. Usually, proposals are best made in private, so scrap the radio phone-in and share the good news after the event, not before. Really nice touch is to have Champagne ready to celebrate. Be prepared to start talking about wedding plans immediately.

The Rock

Finally, most engagements are secured with the help of a big sparkling rock! If you choose to present your partner with this ring at the proposal, be very sure that you know her taste as well as her ring size, as she'll hopefully be wearing it for a very long time. Try not to be offended if your fiancée does not adore the ring you selected for her. Assure her that she can choose the ring herself later to find the one she desires. Avoid it all together by proposing first then shopping for the ring together, especially if you're not sure of her taste as majority of women would actually prefer to go out and choose the ring together.

The Preparation

If you are lucky enough to have a few months to prepare, you may want to join a gym, or start walking to get some exercise. Drink at least eight glasses of water per day in order to flush toxins out of your system. Treat yourself to a facial every five weeks until the wedding. An effective facial will remove dead skin cells from your face and makes your skin glow. Also, regular manicures and pedicures will help to keep your hands, feet and nails in good condition. I have always believed that (I’m sure I’m not alone in this) a bride should enhance her looks and look elegant. So I ask you.. What possesses some brides to look horrifically like they have just lost a fight with a drag queen? Or my favorite of all.. orange faced flight attendant! Some brides seem to think that looking extremely different on your wedding day will be a success. This more then often turns disastrous! This is not an EXTREME MAKEOVER!Your hair and make-up should only enhance you, not alter you. You will need a professional Hairdresser and make-up artist for your wedding day. This is important as they can make your face both camera-ready and natural-looking. You are paying through the nose for a photographer, you’ll need to secure a good return. Your wedding photographs will be an eternal reflection of your most important day, you need to look perfect.
