JOINT INVESTIGATION LEADS TO DRUG BUST OF CAREER CRIMINAL COUPLE LIVING IN STUART: FEMALE SUSPECT USES HER FOUR SMALL CHILDREN TO SHIELD HERSELF FROM POLICE AFTER TRYING TO FLUSH BAGS OF DRUGS DOWN TOILET

Martin County, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- 33-year old Jeffrey Lopez is known to law enforcement as a registered career offender. His wife, 22-year old Diamond Lynn Lopez, is known as a violent felony offender of special concern. Together, they used their Stuart apartment to traffic dangerous and addictive drugs. Now, they face years in prison following a joint investigation into their on-going drug activity.
Martin County Sheriff’s Detectives, Stuart Police, DEA, and agents with FDLE concluded a three month investigation into the Lopez drug operation last week seizing substantial quantities of cocaine, fentanyl and cash from an apartment located at 983 NW Spruce Ridge Drive.

The MCSO SWAT Team arrested Jeffrey Lopez first in the parking lot of the WAWA gas station on Federal Highway. MCSO SWAT then responded to Lopez’s apartment where Diamond Lopez was inside with Lopez’s four children. Upon making contact with Lopez members of the SWAT team began to give her verbal commands. At that point SWAT operators observed Diamond Lopez trying to destroy evidence by flushing bags of cocaine down the toilet and kitchen sink. When SWAT operators entered the apartment, Lopez used her four small children to shield herself from law enforcement. SWAT was able to secure the children and take Diamond Lopez into custody.

Jeffrey and Diamond Lopez were both arrested and face multiple drug trafficking charges. Detectives also seized the substantial amounts of cocaine, capsules of Fentanyl, thousands of dollars in cash and drug paraphernalia such as scales and packaging material.
It is notable that Martin County has responded to 70- Fentanyl overdoses so far this year.
