Welcome to Hurricane Season 2018

Welcome to Hurricane Season 2018

TreasureCoast.com -Today is the start of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Officials say this will be an average season. Colorado State University issued an updated outlook yesterday. They now call for 14 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes.

The City of Port St Lucie is holding their annual Hurricane Expo. It will be tomorrow at the Port St Lucie Civic Center from 10am to 2pm. There will be presentations by WPTV meteorologist Steve Weagle, National Weather Service meteorologist William Ulrich, WPBF meteorologist Mike Lyons, along with city and county emergency management staff. The expo will also have a hurricane simulator, a photo booth, and raffles to win hurricane supply kits. Speaking of a hurricane supply kit, you should make sure to have yours ready now, before a storm approaches.

FEMA suggests that your supply kit include one gallon of water per person per day, for at least three days; a three day supply of non-perishable food; a battery powered or hand crank NOAA weather radio; flashlight and extra batteries.

For more go to our Hurricane Center and click on preparation. And, if you still have some things on your list that you need to get… the state of Florida is making it easier to get them thanks to a tax free holiday on hurricane supplies. Now through June 7th you can get certain types of batteries, tarps, coolers, generators, and more all tax free.
