Wabasso Beach

Located at the end of County Road 510 and east of State Road A1A, Wabasso Beach Park features a wide and sandy stretch of beach and is popular with surfers and people who want a quieter atmosphere and the convenience of maintained facilities. Swimming and snorkeling are common activities depending on the water and surf conditions. For surfers, winter is the preferred time at Wabasso Beach Park.

The beach park tends to be less crowded than others in the area, and it’s a scenic spot to catch the sunrise or sunset.  

It’s also a favorite among treasure hunters with a reef just off the shore, leading to a Spanish shipwreck—Queens Jewels. In 2015, hundreds of gold coins with a value of $4.5 million were found six feet off the park’s shores.

Located next to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, Wabasso Beach is set in a residential area about eight miles from bustling Ocean Drive. Near Wabasso Beach Park is the Environmental Learning Center, a lagoon nature center in the Indian River Lagoon. Paddling tours are offered close to Wabasso Beach Park, and there’s also the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge and the McLarty Treasure Museum within a few miles of the park.

The park features amenities, including a dedicated, free, paved parking lot, restrooms, body and foot showers, and picnic tables. Lifeguards are on duty at Wabasso Beach Park, one of the primary draws for visitors, and nearby conveniences include eateries and shops selling beach essentials.

Boardwalk access takes park visitors over the dunes and sea oats from the parking area.

The park is part of the Wabasso Beach, Florida community. Located in Indian River County on the inland waterway, it’s a small community. Wabasso Beach Park is part of the Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway, offering the opportunity to explore unique habitats and scenery making up the Treasure Coast.
