Volunteer dies at Humane Society, cause unknown

St. Lucie County,Fl (treasurecoast.com)-

A volunteer has died after an incident at the Humane Society of St Lucie County. Police are investigating to find out if the woman died after being attacked by one of the dogs, or from other causes.

Fort Pierce police went to the Humane Society of St. Lucie County for a report of a dog bite Thursday, the agency stated.

Police went to the facility on Savannah Road east of U.S. 1 about 2:17 p.m.

“This incident involved an adult volunteer, who is deceased,” police stated in a news release issued at 5:02 p.m.

According to the Humane Society, authorities found her in the play area of the shelter of the Fort Pierce Second Chance Shelter. They called her a “valued volunteer.”

The female volunteer was identified as Christine Liquori.

Police say it’s unclear whether Liquori died from a dog bite or other causes, but the dog is set to be euthanized, Friday.

The non-profit organization released a statement via Facebook saying “Christine was a valued volunteer “and that “the circumstances of her tragic passing are under investigation.”
