Vero man arrested for Crash/leaving the scene and possession.
On 7/4/17 at approximately 10:15 am, an Fellsmere police officer conducting stationary traffic enforcement on N. Willow witnessed a red pick-up truck traveling north veer in to the opposite lane and force another motorist off the road to avoid a head on collision.
The front driver’s side of the pick-up truck made contact with the rear of the driver’s side of the other vehicle. The operator of the red pick-up truck did not stop after the collision. He then continued north on Willow and the motorist he struck turned around to follow.
The driver was later identified as Tobias Martin of Vero Lake Estates. Martin continued north on Willow and drove past the officer without stopping. The officer entered the roadway at that point and initiated a stop at N. Willow and Wyoming Avenue.
During his initial encounter with Martin, the officer detected potential signs of impairment. Martin admitted to drinking until 4 am that morning. He was administered field sobriety tests. Martin could not perform them satisfactorily. He was arrested for driving under the influence. A search of his vehicle incident produced four individual baggies of marijuana with a combined weight of 130 grams.
Martin was transported to the Indian River County Jail. He was offered a breath test. The results were .150 and .147.
