Vero Man arrested for animal abuse

Vero Beach, Fl- On 08/05/18, Officers of the Vero Beach Police Department responded to 1800 block of 20th avenue in reference to a report of animal abuse. The officers met with the complainant. They were provided with detailed information pertaining to the suspect, Jack Weathers abusing his dog. Officers were informed that Weathers became enraged when the dog ate his food and began to physically strike the dog.

While on scene the primary investigating officer was shown a video of the incident that depicted Weathers striking the dog with his feet. The same officer checked on the welfare of the dog. He discovered the dog had a small laceration to it’s side. Based on evidence collected in the investigation officers placed Weathers under arrest for animal abuse as well as his outstanding arrest warrant for Driving While License Suspended/Revoked. Weathers is currently incarcerated at the Indian River County Jail on a $7,000 Bond.

The dog is currently receiving medical attention at a local animal hospital. This case is still under investigation.
