Vero Beach Man Killed in South Hutchinson Island Paramotor Accident.

Arthur Levy, 48, of Vero Beach was killed today when his backpack-powered parachute crashed on South Hutchinson Island.

A paramotor is a motorized, steerable paraglider, powered by a motor and propeller harnessed to the pilot’s back.

According to the Sheriff, the accident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. this afternoon near Middle Cove on South Beach. 9-1-1 was notified at 1:03 p.m. and deputies were on scene by 1:12 p.m.  Levy was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

The investigation into the cause of the accident will be handled by the Sheriff’s Office and is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
