The vandals used fireworks to blow up toilets, spray paint walls, break soap dispensers and damage anything in their path. Deputies responded to Jock Leighton Park, Mary Brogan Park, Pendarvis Cove Park and Sandsprit Park finding much of the same destruction. Detectives believe the same individuals are likely responsible for all of the damage. A team of detectives returned to the parks today to collect and preserve as much evidence as possible in hopes of identifying the suspects. Damage estimates could exceed $10,000 making these crimes a felony.
Parks officials, who do an outstanding job on a daily basis keeping our park facilities clean, safe and functioning for our Martin County families, were forced to close many of the damaged areas as they plan for repairs.
Martin County Detectives are asking anyone with information about this, to please call Detective Ben Lisle at 772-631-4480.
