Unidentified body discovered on a vacant lot in Fellsmere

Fellsmere, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -On October 9th at approximately 4:00 pm, officers of the Fellsmere Police Department were dispatched to a vacant residential lot in the vicinity of N. Willow Street and Lincoln Street to investigate the report of a dead body at that location.
The body was located in a small wooded area on the south end of the lot and was discovered by the property owner who recently purchased it.
The scene was processed by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene unit and the body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Ft. Pierce. An autopsy will be conducted at 9:00 am Monday, October 11th.
Due to the level of decomposition, the race and gender of the body have not been determined at this time. The manner of death is also undetermined.
Personal items of value were found underneath the body could aid in identification.
Officers concluded their on-scene investigation at 7:30 PM.
This is an active FPD investigation currently in the hands of the District 19 Medical Examiner. More information will be released as soon as it is available.
