UF-IFAS/St. Lucie Extension Office Hosts Youth Fishing Clinics Aug. 5

FORT PIERCE – UF/IFAS St. Lucie County Extension staff is partnering with several other agencies to host a series of youth fishing clinics on the Indian River Lagoon, Thursday, Aug. 5

Designed for ages 8-14, students will gain fishing skills and learn how to care for our waterways. Hosted by a team of University of Florida and Florida A&M University Extension faculty working with the Ocean Research Conservation Alliance (ORCA) and volunteers from local fishing clubs, this event is designed to introduce local youth to fishing for food and fun – a skill that will last them a lifetime

Participants will learn how to cast a line and tie good knots, along with learning the importance of protecting our waterways and the environment. Scientist from ORCA will be there to provide hands on experience in dissecting and preparing fish for testing in the lab.  Students who participate will get to keep the pole and tackle box they use so they can continue to develop their new skills. Refreshments will be provided

This is a free event, but pre-registration is required. There are three two-hour sessions to choose from and more details are available at the registration link:  https://tinyurl.com/IRLFishClinic.
