Two men arrested after ignoring Police while trying to eat marijuana

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -During the late-night hours of January 19, 2021 Port St Lucie Police Officers observed a vehicle with no tag light at the intersection of SW Gatlin Blvd/SW Port St Lucie Blvd.  Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle as it turned west on SW Gatlin Blvd.  The vehicle continued west, traveling approximately 20mph-30mph, which is approximately 10mph under the speed limit.

Police Officers turned on their sirens, meanwhile the vehicle ignored the emergency lights and sirens, while driving an additional approximate 1.5 miles.  The passenger of the vehicle, Da ‘jour Shamarie ira Harper  exited the vehicle while chewing on something.  Officers found Harper to be chewing on a green leafy substance that was in his mouth, teeth, and tongue.  The driver, Trent Henley  also had a green leafy substance in his mouth, teeth, and tongue.

Harper informed Officers that they did in fact see and hear the emergency lights and sirens, but they continued to ignore them while they drove, so they could eat the remaining marijuana.  Officers learned that Harper is on felony drug probation which is why they attempted to eat the marijuana.  It is estimated they ingested approximately a quarter ounce of marijuana.

Harper was charged with tampering/destruction of evidence, and violation of probation.

Henley was charged with tampering/destruction of evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia and given citations for equipment violation, fleeing and eluding, and possession of an open container.
