Two dangerous shootings in Ft Pierce over the weekend

Two dangerous shootings this weekend involving St Lucie County Sheriff’s Deputies, both in Fort Pierce. The first happened Friday afternoon. Sheriff Ken Mascara said a traffic stop turned into an extremely dangerous situation.

The sheriff’s say the suspects shot from their car, hitting the front of the deputies vehicle dozens of times. The chase went on for miles, with the suspects continuing to shoot out of their car. It finally ended when an undercovery deputy rammed the suspect vehicle off the road. In total, 4 sheriff’s vehicles were hit by bullets in the chase, including Sheriff Mascara’s own car. 19-year old Jose Nava and 21-year old Eduardo Ramirez were both arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder.

A minor was also taken into custody.

Less than 24 hours later, deputies were involved in another shooting. This one took place in Fort Pierce between the turnpike and 95. That incident ended with a suspected drug dealer dead.

The man killed in that officer-involved shooting has been identified as 27-year old Rio Antwuan Thomas of Port St Lucie.
