Treasure Coast Theatre presents the Tony Award-winning comedy, “Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike
Port St. Lucie, FL. Treasure Coast Theatre — Port St. Lucie’s only community theatre presents the Tony Award-winning Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike, written by Christopher Durang. The play was nominated for six Tony awards in 2013, winning for Best Play. The play also won the Drama Desk Award, a Drama League Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, and the New York Critics Circle Award.
The story revolves around the relationships of three middle-aged single siblings, two of whom live together, and takes place during a visit by the third, Masha, who supports them. They discuss their lives and loves, argue, and Masha threatens to sell the house. The play also deals with themes of old vs. new generations, real vs. assumed identities, the challenges of a woman growing older after successes in a career that seems to be ending, the hope and carelessness of youth, intra-familial rivalries, and the possible loss of an ancestral home.
Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike is directed by Rosemary Knight, who directed the Theatre’s production of the critically acclaimed Doubt: A Parable. The show has a cast of mostly familiar faces to theatergoers on the Treasure Coast – Mark Fetterly, Dawn Achin, Angela Anderson-Knittel, Sarah Klein, and Ellie Nicholas, and one newcomer – Zach Hoge – in the role of Spike.
The play opens on Friday, March 4th at 8pm. The show runs for three weekends from Friday, March 4th to Sunday, March 20th. Performances are held at 8pm on Friday and Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. Tickets are $25. Please contact the box office for group sales and student pricing.
