Treasure Coast Sports Update Feb 1, 2017

Brought to you from Mike Thomas from WSTU!

High school basketball last night:

Port St Lucie trailed by 8 points to Fort Pierce Central at halftime. A third quarter tied the game going into the fourth. The game was back and forth until the final seconds of the game. Port St Lucie had taken a two point lead after a pair of free throws.  Central had the ball with a chance to tie it.

Port St Lucie is on the road Friday night at Jensen Beach for their last regular season game. They will then host Westwood on Wednesday the 8th in their District semi-final matchup.

The winner of that game will play Suncoast in the District Championship and advance to the regional tournament. Meanwhile Central will play Martin County in their district tournament, which is set for next week at Martin County High School.

Staying in high school sports, today is National Signing Day, but some players have already announced where they will be for the next four years.  South Fork quarterback Stone Labanowitz has announced he will be attending ASA College in New York. Labanowitz is the Treasure Coast’s all-time passing leader after starting all four years at South Fork. He threw for over 66-hundred yards and 58 touchdowns in his career.

Two Treasure Coast players announced they will be going to Jacksonville: linebacker Cedric Wilcox the third and defensive back Jordan Edmonds. They will be joined at Jacksonville by Jensen Beach running back Jason Loucks. South Fork offensive lineman Mike Dilla will be playing for West Florida in the fall, and Centennial defensive back Finley Oscar is committed to Ave Maria.
