High school football Friday night.

Before the big game between Vero Beach and Treasure Coast, the community honored the memory of School Resource Officer Steven Brown. Brown passed away over the summer because of a sudden heart attack. Maria Brown and Assistant Chief William Vega were honorary captains for the game, which was another classic between the two schools. It was a back and forth affair with 8 lead changes. Vero Beach scored a TD with just 6 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

Treasure Coast scored first but couldn’t convert the 2-pt conversion. Vero Beach answered with a TD of their own, and kicked the extra point to win 31-30. The win clinches the 6th straight district championship for Vero, and extends their regular season winning streak to 59 games… one shy of the state record held by Lakeland.

In other games, Jensen Beach rolled past Boynton Beach 34-7 while South Fork lost to Sebastian River by the same score, 34-7. A safety in the 4th quarter was the difference to push Centennial past Fort Pierce Central 9-7. Mainland dominated Fort Pierce Westwood 52-28.

Port St Lucie scored a TD in every quarter to beat Okeechobee 27-12. And John Carroll shut out Village Academy 44-0.
