Come join us for some great food, music, family, friends and fireworks!!

Everyone is gearing up for their Fourth of July celebrations this week. Local police are also bracing for the side effect of partygoers: driving under the influence. But there’s a new program with Uber that is launching in Jupiter this holiday, and it’s the first ever of its kind in the state.

The Town of Jupiter wants to make sure you make it home safely by paying for part or all of your ride. The town has set aside $3,000 to pay for rides to and from Jupiter town limits. It covers up to $15 per round trip or one-way rides. The discount will be applied until the $3,000 runs out. Town leaders say they wanted to start with a small sum of money, since this is a test. Once they gather more data and observe how the pilot goes this week, the town is hoping that businesses or the chambers of commerce will jump on board to help invest in this program, so they can help even more people drive home safely.

Update July 4th

Now, the 4th of July is basically synonymous with fireworks. And every year, firefighters typically respond to more than 100 incidents related to the improper use of fireworks. Florida state law limits sales to relatively safe devices like sparklers and fountains. Banned are the sale of bottle rockets, roman candles and other airborne fireworks. However, thousands of people buy fireworks through a loophole in state law that allows sales for agricultural purposes. People should think twice before signing an agricultural use waiver, and enjoy public shows instead.

Specific rules about where fireworks can be shot off vary from county to county, and a list of approved sparklers can be found on the state fire marshal’s website at My Florida CFO dot com.

There are plenty of options if you want to head out and see the fireworks. In Stuart, festivities begin around noon with food going on sale, face painting, and merchandise going on sale.

At 6pm the Stuart Air Show Demonstration will begin. At 7:30, former American Idol contestant Emily Brooke will take the Riverwalk Stage. At 8pm the pilots will be available for a meet and greet, and at 9pm the fireworks will begin. After the fireworks Emily Brooke will head back to the Riverwalk Stage and perform until 11.

In Port St Lucie, Freedomfest begins at 4pm at the Civic Center. Majesty of Rock, a Journey tribute band, will be performing live. There will be food, refreshments, games and activities for the kids, plus arts & crafts. Fireworks begin at 9.

Then in Fort Pierce, Stars over St Lucie starts at 6pm at the Veterans Memorial Park. The band Checkmate will be performing, plus food, arts & crafts, and bounce houses for the kids. A historic military canon demonstration will take place at 6, 7, 8, and 9 o’clock, all culminating with the fireworks at 9.

And whether you travel to one of the public events, or party somewhere else, remember to be safe and don’t drink and drive.

Plan ahead and take an Uber, Lyft, or other ridesharing service. And if you get stuck with no other option, Triple A’s Tow-2-Go is available. They will tow you and your car to a safe destination. Call 855-2-TOW-2-GO.
