Florida’s coronavirus death toll is nearing the two-thousand mark. Another nine deaths reported yesterday raised the count to 19-hundred-73. Cases statewide top 45-thousand.
A new day dawns in South Florida as restaurants and retail establishments open for the first time in two months as part of Phase 1.
Governor Ron DeSantis announced the executive order on Friday to allow restaurants, retail stores and gyms to increase capacity to 50% effective May 18.
Fitness centers today will join Florida’s slow return to normal. Gyms are allowed to reopen at 50 percent capacity, and precautions will be taken to ensure staff and members are safe. Those precautions include requiring masks for staff and separating equipment to comply with social distancing guidelines.
One industry keeping a close eye on beach re-openings is hotels.
They’ve taken a bit hit in recent weeks, and now they’re bracing to miss out on Memorial Day profits.
The coronavirus pandemic hit during the high season, where they typically see the biggest profits.
