Tortoise saved in the middle of police pursuit for murderer, gets a ride in patrol vehicle

Martin County, Fl (treasurecoast.com) – MCSO, PBSO deputies, along with US Marshals Fugitive Task Force were busy capturing a  murder suspect out of Palm Beach County after intense pursuit on I95 this morning. In the middle of all that the most wonderful thing happened!

From the Martin County Sheriff

RESCUED TORTOISE CAUGHT UP IN POLICE PURSUIT HAPPY TO BE HOME AGAIN, NOT LIKELY TO EVER TAKE THE #WRONGEXIT AGAIN
You may not be able to see it in his face, but this tortoise learned some life lessons today; Mondays are unpredictable and police work is definitely not for the slow paced.
The wayward tortoise found himself trapped on SR 714 unable to clear a curb and get to safety. He narrowly escaped being hit by several cars before Sheriff William Snyder passed by. The Sheriff pulled to the side of the road, picked the tortoise up, and turned him over to a passing Captain to be brought to safety. Except, at the exact lifesaving moment, dispatch called out an interstate pursuit for a murder suspect. A decision had to be made, leave him in the road, or take him for the ride. Needless to say, with lights and sirens on, he went for the ride secured in the passenger side of a patrol vehicle.
When the suspects were caught and the dust settled, Captain Kloster escorted the tortoise back to the wooded area where he likely took his own wrong exit. Why did the turtle try to cross the road you ask? We don’t know. But we are pretty sure that he will never come out on a Monday again. This is a true story.
