Tucked into a side street off SE Ocean Boulevard near the courthouse in downtown Stuart, this gem of a restaurant is worth seeking out. Opened about two years ago, The Harvest Table is popular amongst true locavores in our area featuring locally sourced food with an emphasis on fresh and organic. Owned by longtime Treasure Coast residents Jim and Gina Cunningham, a pair who met over a salad bar while working in restaurants as teenagers. They both continued to work in the food business and then combined their talents to open the restaurant, he is the chef and she runs the front of the house.

The restaurant is cozy. Welcoming and feels like you are having a meal in a friend’s kitchen. Rustic wood and sunny yellow describe the decor and all the food details are right on the money. Most everything is made from scratch, including the iced tea, hand cut french fries, and soups. The menu includes sandwiches, salads, wraps, and burgers.  There is an extensive selection of organic ingredients displayed on the salad bar. Sides of artisanal bread and homemade soup make the salad bar an obviously popular choice. There is a continuous stream of customers filling their go boxes. Vegans and carnivores can happily dine together here.

Open for Lunch

The restaurant is open for lunch during the week,  so my husband and I stopped by while in Stuart this week. My husband had the Smoked Brisket Sandwich. I should probably mention he is an unusually picky brisket eater, usually preferring his own. The brisket, smoked over hickory wood is served on a brioche roll with two house made sauces, barbecue and cheese. The Cherry Dr. Pepper Barbecue sauce is good, but the Fontina cheese reduction inspires raves. Let’s just say the sandwich didn’t last very long on the plate.

Potsdam Tri Pepper Wrap

I ordered the Potsdam Tri Colored Pepper Wrap with chicken and a side of potato salad. The wrap arrived piping hot from the panini press. Juicy chicken, grilled peppers, sweet onions and mushrooms on a flour tortilla slathered with herb pesto and melty provolone cheese. The ingredients in the wrap provide a complexity of flavors that is nicely offset by the simplicity of the potato salad. The genius here is in the combination of onion, mayo and potato (and probably something else)

The Harvest Table is well worth a trip to downtown Stuart if you are searching for a weekday lunch.
