“The Flakka made me do it”

BROWARD COUNTY MAN WHO NEARLY RAN DOWN A COCONUT CREEK POLICE OFFICER, SMASHED INTO THE OFFICER’S CAR, THEN TOOK OFF, TRIES TO MOVE HIS DANGEROUS ANTICS THROUGH MARTIN COUNTY…. AND GUESS WHAT?

"The flakka made me do it."

“The flakka made me do it.”

20-year old Kevin Tyler Joseph, of Pompano Beach, told Martin County Sheriff’s midnight shift deputies, that the “Flakka made him do it” as he exited his car, put his hands behind his back, and dropped to the ground. This, after deputies were forced to stop the black Honda he was driving at speeds of more than 100 mph on I-95 in Martin County.

Deputies stayed close to the interstate Monday morning, after receiving an earlier BOLO detailing a violent aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer coming from the Coconut Creek Police Department.

Around 3:30 a.m., Deputy Emanuel Perez spotted a car matching the BOLO near the Kanner Highway exit. He attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Joseph refused to pull over. Deputy Perez then performed a maneuver on the Honda, which forced the car to slow down. Joseph finally decided to stop.

The fleeing suspect got out of the car, put his hands behind his back, and dropped to the ground as he apologized to Deputy Perez for his behavior. Joseph blamed Flakka for his unlawful and dangerous decisions. Investigators later found three baggies containing Flakka inside the car.

Joseph was secured, but told deputies he had chest pains and was transported to the hospital. Once medically cleared, he was transported to the Martin County Jail and charged with fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended driver’s license with knowledge, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, drug possession, leaving the scene of a crash with damage, and fleeing and eluding. His bond is $115,000.00.
